Ridgid 18V Chainsaw Review R01101

In late 2022, Ridgid announced its cordless OPE lineup and the collection included seven core tools to help homeowners keep their yards looking fresh. Now that the Ridgid 18V Chainsaw is available, we’re looking at what it brings to the table so you know what to expect before you buy.

Ridgid’s long-awaited battery-powered chainsaw uses a brushless motor to deliver up to 100 cuts per charge. The variable speed trigger lets you adjust your chain speeds up to 10 m/s. With a 12-inch bar and chain length, the R01101 gives you a cut capacity of 10 inches. Additionally, this chainsaw employs an electronic chain brake that quickly stops the chain’s rotation, helping protect you from potential kickbacks.

During our testing, we managed to bog the motor down a few times while bucking logs. However, by slowing down and allowing the chain to do its magic, we managed to get pretty good results. With that in mind, be sure to keep a close eye on your overall cutting speed so you know when it’s time to sharpen the chain.

The Ridgid R01101 is ideal for limbing and pruning trees with smaller diameter branches due to its compact design. If you’re regularly going beyond occasional light-duty use, you may consider upgrading to a more powerful battery-powered chainsaw.

This chainsaw keeps a lightweight design, at just 7.75 pounds as a bare tool and 9.41 pounds with the recommended 6.0Ah Max Output battery. This saw measures 26 inches from end to end which is right in line with what expect from a compact chainsaw.

The main grip is draped in a textured rubber overmold for improved handling and features a thumb safety switch on top for easy access.

This saw has an automatic chain oiler as well as a translucent 7.3 ounce oil reservoir that lets you keep track of your oil levels. Ridgid opted for a traditional style tooled chain tensioner system for simple maintenance and a storage slot underneath for the included scrench.

This chainsaw retails for $189 as a bare tool and $269 as a kit, including a 6.0Ah Max Output battery and charger. Ridgid backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty, and you can take advantage of their Lifetime Service Agreement when you register your product within 90 days of purchase.

For most folks, the Ridgid chainsaw can handle the majority of light seasonal trimming and pruning tasks. Admittedly, it’s not without its limitations when it comes to cutting power and capacity. Regardless, the Ridgid 18V Chainsaw is a great option if you’re on the hunt for a lightweight, easy-to-use saw with plenty of useful features.
