PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – Palmer Police and Fire crews responded to a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Ware Road (Route 32) and Gates Street in the Thorndike section of Palmer Tuesday evening.

According to Palmer Police, around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, a 2000 Ford sedan with a single occupant was traveling north on Ware Rd. when it crossed the centerline striking a 2015 Honda SUV head-on. The Honda was occupied by one adult and three children at the time of impact.

The occupants of the Honda, who received slight injuries, were attended to by medical professionals and then brought to Bay State Wing Hospital in Palmer for further evaluation and treatment.

The operator of the Ford sedan was urgently airlifted via Life Flight to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he is receiving specialized medical attention.

The Palmer Police Criminal Investigation Division, joined by the Massachusetts State Police C.A.R.S Unit and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.

Ware Road (Route 32) remains closed to all traffic as of 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, 22News will provide updates as soon as they become available.
